Position Summary
UCLA Student Affairs is a network of more than 25 programs, services, and experiences that connect with the life of every student during his, her, or their collegiate career and strives to ensure students have the programs and resources to meet their personal and academic needs.  As the Director of Development, Student Affairs, you will work across a variety of disciplines and on varied and complex gifts including those that benefit underserved student populations, student leadership programs, club and recreational sports, and much more. Primary Responsibilities
Serving as the Director of Development, Student Affairs, you will work with the Executive Director of Development for Scholarships and Student Support Initiatives (SSI) to plan and implement a strong, proactive major gift program that reflects the priorities of the Office of Student Affairs.  In this role, you will have significant responsibility for formulating or administering fundraising policies and programs, discretionary authority to develop or modify fundraising goals and priorities, implement programs and setting strategy for the fundraising programs for which you will create and manage. You will develop and maintain a portfolio of individual major gift prospects, work closely with Student Affairs leadership, staff and your colleagues on the UCLA development team to gain knowledge of programs, areas of expertise and space needs, determine market feasibility for priorities, and provide leadership, assistance, advice and counsel on fundraising strategies and initiatives. As the Director, you will you will also establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with appropriate individuals and offices throughout External Affairs, within the Office of Student Affairs and campus-wide. You will work with the Executive Director on programmatic management and planning and will review and revise program goals and objectives at appropriate intervals. In addition, as Director, you will manage fundraising staff as appropriate to drive fundraising initiatives and projects. Qualifications
1. Minimum of three years of fundraising experience and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development. 

2. Experience in and strong documented record of gifts solicited and closed in the annual, special and/or major gifts range and/or solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.

3. Experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing special events.

4. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising in a university setting with a strong understanding of the goals, functions and services of a research university or institution of equivalent complexity. 

5. Proven skills in and/or ability to develop sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering major gift solicitations or other solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.

6. Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work harmoniously with volunteers, academic leaders, faculty, and other development staff toward the accomplishment of fundraising goals. 

7. Demonstrated skill and/or ability to work with a dean and/or senior faculty or equivalent leadership of a similar level and type at a comparable organization.

8. Strong ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate and evaluate staff and volunteers who support development goals and programs.

9. Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks and multi-phase projects simultaneously from inception to completion and complete work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision.

10. Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, about UCLA’s fundraising goals and the specific priorities of the Office of Student Affairs; equal ability to listen perceptively and convey sensitivity and awareness.

11. Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgement, proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations, and reports.

12. Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues as well as confidential information.

13. Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of applications is required as is familiarity with other applications, programs and databases as needed with a willingness to learn new technologies.

14. Ability to travel and work some weekends and/or evenings as needed.

15. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
