Position Summary
As an Associate Director of Development and a valued member of the UCLA Health Sciences Development team, you will work in consultation with the Director of Development, and will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of lower-level major gift prospects in support of the departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery and other areas as appropriate. Primary Responsibilities
Working in consultation with the Director/Executive Director of Development, Neurology and Neurosurgery you will strategically plan, prepare for and participate in lower-level major gift solicitations as appropriate. You will find success through identifying, growing and managing a portfolio of lower-level major gift prospects; organizing and conducting meetings with prospective donors; generating compelling written and oral communications to constituencies; and collaborating with internal stakeholders to advance the philanthropic priorities of the departments of Neurology/ Neurosurgery. Qualifications
1. Minimum of two years of demonstrated annual giving or fundraising experience and/or prior experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development.
2. Experience with Blackbaud CRM or equivalent development database and the use of databases to generate reports is preferred.
3. Working knowledge of principles and practices of fundraising and major giving in a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity including annual giving techniques.
4. Ability to conceptualize and implement broad ranging and specific individual identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies.
5. Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write and edit reports, business correspondence, proposals and other cultivation and solicitation materials; ability to prepare clear and compelling materials for fundraising events, initiatives and programs.
6. Excellent oral communication skills to collect and convey information with accuracy, diplomacy and tact; ability to persuasively express the mission of the university and the fundraising goals of the campus, especially as they relate to the departments of Neurology/Neurosurgery and others in the David Geffen School of Medicine.
7. Ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate and evaluate staff and volunteers who support development goals and programs.
8. Well-developed interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues and build and sustain lasting relationships with a wide variety of internal and external constituents.
9. Detail oriented with ability to take initiative, work independently and accept responsibility; adept at setting priorities and managing work flow to fulfill objectives and meet goals accordingly to deadlines in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.
10. Knowledge of data management sufficient to retrieve data and isolate specific market segments.
11. Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor files and other information; impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues.
12. Proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications as well as familiarity with other database, spreadsheet, scheduling and email applications; willingness to learn new programs and applications in a prompt and efficient manner.
13. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.
14. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
