Position Summary

As the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA)’s Senior Director of Stewardship, you will work in close partnership with the Executive Senior Associate Athletic Officer/Chief Development Officer and be responsible for building and executing a comprehensive donor stewardship and events program that enhances the donor experience and supports the Athletic Department’s strategic priorities and philanthropic support through meaningful donor relations and stewardship. Primary Responsibilities
As our Senior Director, Stewardship, you will work in collaboration with frontline fundraising team, marketing and communications departments, university stewardship team, and coaches. Responsibilities include creating stewardship plans, developing best practices and maintaining consistency with campus-wide stewardship policies/procedures, developing and enhancing tracking processes, and developing and communicating program goals and activities to fundraising and athletics colleagues/leadership. In this role, your work will be a vital element to expand the depth and impact of the UCLA Athletics program through developing innovative strategies and resources that facilitate engagement and maximize exposure of UCLA Athletics to our constituents and stakeholders. In addition, you will manage professional and support staff as appropriate, guiding and leading them to produce high quality and successful stewardship outcomes. Qualifications
1. Minimum of five years of experience working with donors to include strong knowledge of the donor cycle and managing a donor acknowledgement program, preferably in philanthropy and/or prior experience working with constituents in a related highly customer services driven field.
2. Prior experience in intercollegiate athletic fund-raising preferred.
3. Proven management, administrative and supervisory experience with ability to lead high functioning teams that meet or exceed goals; demonstrated ability to motivate, coach, and contribute to the culture and model the values of UCLA.
4. Collaborative skills and experience engaging and bringing key stakeholders – athletic directors, chief executives, leadership volunteers, board members, coaches, etc. - into the stewardship and engagement process.
5. Prior experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing events.
6. Volunteer and committee management experience.
7. Ability to think strategically about donor engagement, understand the importance of donor retention and generate creative strategies to achieve high retention rates with measurable ROI.
8. Outstanding written and oral communication skills with proficiency in the art of storytelling and experience in developing impact and other reports and presentations.
9. Strategic and innovative thinker with well-developed interpersonal skills and a strong understanding of and ability to develop and sustain resilient and dynamic relationships with a wide variety of internal/external constituents.
10. Organized and highly detail oriented; strong time/project management skills with ability to be proactive, work independently and accept responsibility; adept at establishing priorities and managing workflow to fulfill objectives and meet goals according to deadlines in a fast-paced environment under minimal supervision.
11. Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors and other stakeholders/ constituents and in the handling and maintenance of confidential information.
12. Knowledge of all logistical support elements of events/event production including experience working directly with vendors on contract negotiations, catering, printed material design, rentals, complex audio/video set-up, mailing, and parking.
13. Ability to apply mature judgment and analytical skills to execute work and programmatic activities.
14. Ability to interpret financial data for fund tracking, donor stewardship practices and drafting customized stewardship related reports.
15. Knowledge of university budget procedures is preferred as is knowledge of university/event related policies, procedures, campus venues, services and departments.
16. Ability to adhere to and comply with NCAA, Big Ten and University rules and regulations; or equivalent compliance experience.
17. Ability to travel and work evenings nights and/or weekends as athletic event hospitality dictates.
18. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
