Position Summary

UCLA Health’s Operation Mend - a member of the Warrior Care Network, and a partner with the United States military, has been providing advanced surgical treatment, comprehensive psychological evaluation and support, and an intensive treatment program for symptoms related to post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury, since 2007. Primary Responsibilities

Serving as the Director of Development, UCLA Health’s Operation Mend, you will work with the Executive Director, UCLA Hospital Initiatives to plan and implement a strong, proactive major gift program that reflect the priorities of UCLA Health Sciences. You will also work closely with UCLA Health Sciences leadership, staff and your colleagues on the UCLA Health Sciences development team to gain knowledge of programs, areas of expertise and space needs, determine market feasibility for priorities and provide leadership, assistance, advice and counsel on fundraising strategies and initiatives.

Qualifications

1    1.     Minimum of three years of fundraising experience and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development.

2.     Experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing special events.

3.     Experience in and strong documented record of gifts solicited and closed in the annual, special and/or major gifts range and/or solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.

4.     Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising in a university setting with a strong understanding of the goals, functions and services of a research university or institution of equivalent complexity.

5.     Proven skills in and/or ability to develop sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering major gift solicitations or other solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.

6.     Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work harmoniously with volunteers, academic leaders, faculty, and other development staff toward the accomplishment of fundraising goals.

7.     Demonstrated skill and/or ability to work with a dean and/or senior faculty or equivalent leadership of a similar level and type at a comparable organization.

8.     Strong ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate and evaluate staff and volunteers who support development goals and programs.

9.     Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks and multi-phase projects simultaneously from inception to completion and complete work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision.

10.  Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, about UCLA’s fundraising goals and the specific priorities of UCLA Operation Mend; equal ability to listen perceptively and convey sensitivity and awareness.

11.  Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgement, proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations, and reports.

12.  Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues as well as confidential information.

13.  Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of applications is required as is familiarity with other applications, programs and databases as needed with a willingness to learn new technologies.  

14.  Ability to travel and work some weekends and/or evenings as needed. 

15.  Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
