Position Summary

Advance your accounting career as the Financial Reporting Accountant for UCLA’s Foundation Financial Services team where you will oversee investment accounting, reporting and risk management for the UCLA Foundation and provide oversight of the accounting/audit services for the UCLA Alumni Association. Reporting to the Controller, you will also  oversee all financial reporting needs of the Foundation which include quarterly financial board reporting, annual audited financial reporting and annual tax reporting. As part of the External Affairs, Advancement Services organization, UCLA’s Foundation Financial Services team is an internal service group that coordinates and performs vital financial and accounting services for all campus departments as well as UCLA constituents.  This team facilitates and supports a broad range of its constituents’ activities through a variety of value-added services, including investmentaccounting, fund accounting and other finance related functions.



Primary Responsibilities

Additional responsibilities will include answering financial inquiries from all stakeholders and creating a system of checks and balances in Financial reporting, segregation of duties, as well as oversight over all the Financial reporting activities performed within the group.   As the Financial Reporting Accountant, you will provide guidance for the development and implementation of policy and systems utilized by the group to ensure compliance with accounting regulations and Campus policies; recommend and implement process improvements; and will maintain and promote effective working relationships with campus counterparts in General Accounting and UCOP’s Accounting team.  You will also oversee investment accounting as well as the accounting, reporting and preparation of the year-end audited financial statements for the UCLA Foundation and the UCLA Alumni Association (AA) as well. Qualifications
1. A minimum of three years of progressive accounting experience is required with a minimum of five years preferred.

2. Demonstrated experience with booking journal entries and preparing account reconciliations.

3. Organized and detail-oriented with a strong ability to perform duties with high degree of accuracy, working effectively under conditions of frequent interruptions, fluctuating workloads, and changing priorities.

4. Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GASB or FASB).

5. Ability to read and interpret legal documents in order to determine appropriate accounting treatment.

6. Working knowledge of investment accounting.

7. Skill in handling a high volume of financial transactions, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and timeliness with strong data management and financial analysis skills.

8. Demonstrated skill and judgment to handle confidential and sensitive financial information with discretion; strong ability to evaluate, identify and resolve issues.

9. Advanced computer proficiency and technical skills including accounting systems and Microsoft Office suite of applications (Excel, Word, etc.).

10. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to convey information to donors, staff, administrators, auditors, and development officers. Skill in writing concise, logical, grammatically correct business correspondence and financial reports.

11. Interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with campus administrators and external constituents; ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with co-workers and other campus staff.

12. Flexible and collaborative with a proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.  

13. Results oriented with a strong sense of urgency relating to task completion; able to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously as well as learn new tasks and grasp new concepts in a quick and efficient manner.

14. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed to meet deadlines.

15. A bachelor’s degree in accounting (or equivalent) is required.

16. CPA preferred.
