Primary Responsibilities

As the Associate Director of Development, you will be member of UCLA Law’s frontline fundraising team responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts from alumni and friends of UCLA Law with a specific focus on soliciting gifts ranging from $2,500 and up. You will identify and manage a portfolio of current and/or lapsed donors and will create individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies and timetables. You will strategize and oversee execution of a variety of donor cultivation events with a focus on Dean’s Circle level gifts.   In addition, you will work in partnership with the Senior Director of Development and other development team members on a wide variety of fundraising projects and initiatives and will be a strong contributor to the broader mission of the External Affairs office.

Qualifications
1. Minimum of two years of demonstrated annual giving or fundraising experience and/or prior experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development.

2. Experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing special events. 

3. Experience with Blackbaud CRM or equivalent development database and the use of databases to generate reports is preferred.

4. Working knowledge of principles and practices of fundraising in a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity including annual giving techniques.  

5. Ability to conceptualize and implement broad ranging and specific individual identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies.

6. Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write and edit reports, business correspondence, proposals and other cultivation and solicitation materials; ability to prepare clear and compelling materials for fundraising events, initiatives and programs.

7. Excellent oral communication skills to collect and convey information with accuracy, diplomacy and tact; ability to persuasively express the mission of the university and the fundraising goals of the campus, especially as they relate to UCLA Law.

8. Detail oriented with ability to take initiative, work independently and accept responsibility; adept at setting priorities and managing work flow to fulfill objectives and meet goals accordingly to deadlines in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.

9. Ability to work effectively as part of a team with well-developed interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues and build and sustain lasting relationships with a wide variety of internal and external constituents.   

10. Proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications as well as familiarity with other database, spreadsheet, scheduling and email applications; willingness to learn new programs and applications in a prompt and efficient manner.

11. Knowledge of data management and manipulation sufficient to retrieve data and isolate specific market segments.

12. Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor files and other information; impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues.

13. Strong ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate and evaluate staff and volunteers who support development goals and programs.

14. Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed.

15. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
