Position Summary

Join us as the Director of Alumni Engagement for Diversity Networks within the UCLA Alumni Diversity Programs & Initiatives (DPI) team, where your skill and experience in project management and direct support of key volunteer constituents will facilitate and support the growth and sustainability of our UCLA diversity alumni networks. Partnering with team members, alumni volunteers and campus allies, you will plan, organize and implement a comprehensive alumni engagement program with a focus on our diversity networks and their communities within California and around the world. This position is an excellent opportunity to be part of our dynamic team in a supportive environment that is dedicated to creating, fostering and supporting active and effective diversity alumni networks. Your work will further the UCLA Alumni Association’s commitment to build and sustain active engagement with our 650,000+ alumni throughout their lifespan and amplify the impact of our alumni across the university community.



Primary Responsibilities

As the Director, you will apply your experience and understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion principles, and employ data-informed insights, to foster a sense of community amongst alumni who identify with our diversity networks, as you work directly with our alumni to connect them back to UCLA and one another. You will work primarily with Alumni Affairs staff to develop and implement programs, events, and communication strategies that support and strengthen alumni outreach and engagement in our diversity networks; strategically identify opportunities to partner with volunteer leaders to build sustainable infrastructures and leadership pipelines; incorporate our diversity networks in signature UCLA Alumni events, and educate alumni about university priorities. You will also maintain strong working relationships with campus partners that foster diversity to coordinate resource development and programming, and to reach shared UCLA diversity goals. Additionally, as our Director, you will work with student communities to connect them with relevant alumni groups, strengthening the affinities and commitments of both audiences. You will also participate in committees, and support strategic planning processes. As a valued member of our DPI team, you will be provided the direction, inspiration and resources to excel as part of the many growth opportunities we offer staff at UCLA.

Qualifications

1.   Demonstrated experience in volunteer leadership development including volunteer recruitment, stewardship, training and development.

2.   Experience responding to member inquiries and concerns in a customer service-oriented, volunteer-driven environment.

3.   Experience establishing, overseeing and evaluating collaborations and projects, and in developing support among both internal campus constituencies and external partners.

4.   Experience with and understanding of issues involved in a team-oriented environment made up of diverse individuals with a variety of interests, strengths and professional preparation.

5.   Experience with marketing and social media communications platforms including but not limited to: Salesforce, Blackbaud CRM, Smartsheet, Facebook/Instagram, and Adobe Creative Cloud.

6.   Experience working in educational and/or nonprofit, client service-oriented environment is highly desirable and preferred.

7.   Strong leadership skills provided through coaching, mentoring, and active listening to optimize performance of subordinates and volunteers, prior experience in effectively providing feedback and managing workloads.

8.   Strong background in project management, including identifying and setting priorities, performing detailed needs analyses, identifying stakeholders, developing action plans, segmenting projects into their component parts, and managing the process from inception to completion.

9.   Outstanding verbal communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and distinctly, using grammatically correct language to obtain and express information accurately and precisely by phone and in person.

10. Excellent written communication skills to create a wide variety of correspondence, proposals, strategic plans, reports, project plans and presentations; able to successfully deliver effective/impactful presentations to individuals/groups and efficiently convey a variety of data/material.

11. Ability to analyze information, problems, situations, practices or procedures to successfully identify and resolve potential and real problems in a timely manner using tact, sensitivity and political acumen during project planning, execution and close-out processes.  

12. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of applications to include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.; ability to learn new technologies in a prompt and efficient manner.

13. Demonstrated ability to work equally well independently and within a team, and to work on several tasks simultaneously and effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines under minimal supervision.

14. Detail-oriented, goal-oriented, well organized and focused with a high level of initiative and energy.

15. Skill in using judgment in situations requiring independent initiative and tact; ability to handle confidential matters in a sensitive and discreet manner.

16. Creative and resourceful with ability to work effectively in a large, complex and dynamic organization.

17. Ability to travel to off-site meetings and events during regular business hours, evenings and weekends in an efficient manner, sometimes with little advanced notice.

18. Ability to work evening and/or weekend hours as needed.
