Position Summary
As the Assistant Dean, External Relations for UCLA Extension, you can be the green light to education and transforming lives and help dreamers become doers. UCLA Extension runs on “green lights” — offering possibility and open doors to nontraditional and continuing education. As Assistant Dean, External Relations, you will fundraise to support UCLA Extension students advance their skills and aspire to new careers. UCLA Extension, one of the oldest continued-learning programs in the nation, serves over 50,000 students annually who have a dream to learn new skills, or to secure a new job or career. In partnership with the dean, you will use your major gift experience to raise support from a large alumni base and corporations. Your work provides students with the opportunity to change the course of their lives.

Qualifications
1. Five or more years of progressive responsibility and experience as a professional fundraising, external relations officer or similar experience in a nonprofit, membership/volunteer driven or related environment.
2. Expert knowledge of principles and practices of major gift fundraising in a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity.
3. Demonstrated experience in soliciting major gifts and/or prior experience with solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.
4. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement a comprehensive fundraising, external affairs or similar program of comparable size and complexity including the ability to envision and articulate future direction.
5. Appropriate management and administrative skills needed to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate other professionals and volunteers.
6. Excellent communication skills to express, both orally and in writing, the mission of the University and the fundraising goals of the campus, especially as they relate to the UCLA Extension.
7. Effective verbal communication skills to make persuasive oral presentations to senior management and internal and external constituencies; conduct participatory meetings; gain acceptance of decisions; and advise and collaborate with others.
8. Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with academic leaders, faculty, staff, donors and volunteers.
9. Strong strategic thinking skills aligned with the ability to implement and follow through.
10. Strong supervisory skills to oversee and evaluate the efforts of professional fundraisers.
11. Steadfast commitment to work of impeccable integrity with strong analytical and organizational skills to develop creative, credible solutions, recommendations and programs as well to define and implement special fundraising and/or program related projects.
12. Some travel and ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
13. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
