Primary Responsibilities
As an Assistant Director, you will coordinate and support all aspects of direct mail solicitations and email appeals, creating timely and inspiring campaign and donor communications campus-wide as well as digital philanthropy efforts including crowdfunding initiatives, Giving Days, and other digital campaigns requiring project management, platform coordination, and email production. Working in partnership with other development leadership and colleagues, you will also support annual giving digital campaign stewardship efforts which includes developing and executing specialized acknowledgments, creating annual giving impact reports, and other annual gift donor stewardship pieces through video. As an Assistant Director, you will work collaboratively with division and central leadership on efforts related to annual giving and digital philanthropy including branding materials and digital communications. In addition, you may work on special writing assignments, donor relations projects, and creating unique digital materials as they relate to digital philanthropy. Qualifications
1. Minimum of two years demonstrated experience working in a fundraising environment and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development.
2. Experience with a Blackbaud CRM system or equivalent database and the use of databases to generate reports is preferred.
3. Prior experience in developing, managing and leveraging digital media and marketing strategies to drive digital solicitations and crowdfunding outcomes in a fundraising and/or similar constituent driven environment is preferred.
4. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising at a research university of institution of equivalent complexity.
5. Strong knowledge of/familiarity with digital media landscape, web design and crowdfunding platforms with ability to creatively translate UCLA’s fundraising goals and to provide comprehensive social media management across established and emerging platforms.
6. Excellent written communication skills to compose, proofread and edit a variety of correspondence and reports for correct grammar, punctuation, spelling and syntax; ability to write creative and persuasive solicitations, acknowledgements, reports and other fundraising-related pieces.
7. Strong communication skills to collect and convey information via email, over the phone and in-person with accuracy, diplomacy and tact; ability to persuasively express the mission of the University and the fundraising goals of the campus in relation to annual giving.
8. Detail-oriented with ability to take initiative, work independently and accept responsibility; adept at setting priorities and managing workflow to fulfill objectives and meet goals according to deadlines in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.
9. Ability to work effectively as part of a team with well-developed interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues and to build and sustain lasting relationships with a wide variety of internal and external constituents.
10. Proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications, as well as familiarity with other database, spreadsheet, scheduling and email applications.
11. Knowledge of database management and manipulation sufficient to retrieve data and isolate specific market segments.
12. Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor files and other information as appropriate and to use discretion when responding to inquiries.
13. Ability to quickly learn UCLA departments and its academic mission and objective.
14. General knowledge of basic gift terminology and of the application of writing skills to a fundraising program is preferred.
15. Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as needed.
16. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
