Position Summary
As part of UCLA’s Alumni Affairs organization, the Office of Student Alumni Programs & Family Engagement (SAPFE) is committed to supporting Bruin alumni, students and families. Through the Parent & Family Association (PFA), the Director of SAPFE is responsible for cultivating lasting relationships with parents, families and campus partners that strengthen University ties throughout their student’s college experience and beyond.  This position is part of a dynamic team in a supportive environment that is dedicated to the work we do with our Bruin alumni, students and family. Your knowledge, expertise and abilities will further the UCLA Alumni Association’s commitment to build and sustain active engagement with our 660,000+ alumni throughout their lifespan and amplify the impact of our alumni across the university community. 

Primary Responsibilities
As the Director, SAPFE, you will serve as lead for the PFA, promoting student success, retention and graduation by increasing parents’ understanding of the University to build a commitment that translates to volunteerism, advocacy and financial support for UCLA. Specific duties of the position include but are not limited to, creating and implementing a strategic plan for the PFA; providing oversight for/executing all school-wide parent communication, including a digital newsletter, a full website, a podcast and social media initiatives; managing the UCLA Parents’ Council and parent/family volunteer structure; and leading staff in the planning and implementation of events for parents and families of undergraduate students. In addition, as the Director, you will represent parent and family interests on University committees and task forces, and advise on current and emerging issues related to parent/university relations.  You will develop and maintain liaison relationships with other University staff and students to fulfill the program’s goals and will also coordinate assessment of the PFA and report findings, staying current with developments in the field. 



Qualifications
1. Minimum of five years’ experience in an alumni affairs and/or parent/family oriented role to include demonstrated volunteer and/or constituent leadership development experience including volunteer recruitment, stewardship, training and management.

2. Experience establishing, overseeing and evaluating collaborations and initiatives, and in developing support among both internal campus constituencies and external partners. 

3. Experience working in educational and/or nonprofit client service-oriented environment is highly desirable and preferred. 

4. Strong background in program and/or project management including identifying and setting priorities, performing detailed needs analysis, identifying  stakeholders, developing action plans, segmenting projects and initiatives into their component parts and managing the process from inception to completion.

5. Strong interpersonal skills to interact courteously and effectively with co-workers, volunteers, donors, key university officials and other internal and external constituents while maintaining composure under pressure. 

6. Superior analytical ability to define problems and meet objectives, identify relevant factors and concerns, formulate logical objective conclusions, and recognize alternatives and their implications. 

7. Demonstrated ability to work equally well as a team and independently and to plan, organize and prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously; provide proficient follow-up and make effectively timely decisions under minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.

8. Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong ability to speak clearly and distinctly, using grammatically correct language to obtain and convey information accurately and precisely by phone, in person and in writing.

9. Proficient in using Microsoft Suite of applications to include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.; experience using social media platforms with ability to learn other social media platforms and new technologies as needed in a prompt and efficient manner.

10. Detail-oriented, goal-oriented, well organized and focused with a high level of initiative and energy.

11. Skill in using judgment in situations requiring independent initiative and tact; ability to handle confidential matters in a sensitive and discreet manner. 

12. Resourceful with skill in using resources available to gather information needed to complete projects; able to work effectively in a large, complex and dynamic organization.

13. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

14. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
