Position Summary
UCLA Development seeks a Campaign Communications Consultant to conduct a complete communications and marketing assessment of its readiness for an upcoming major fundraising campaign. As an expert in the field, you will lead assessment projects of critical importance in determining needs and resources for the planning and execution of UCLA’s next multi-billion dollar comprehensive campaign. Working with External Affairs (EA) leadership, including the Vice Chancellor, EA, you will provide strong, strategic guidance in formulating campaign marketing, branding, and communication strategies. This six-month contract position will focus on communications, marketing, and branding assessments of the prior campaign, and current capabilities and capacities, and needs identification. As the Campaign Communications Consultant, you will prepare External Affairs leadership and key stakeholders for selection of a marketing agency for its next fundraising campaign.

Primary Responsibilities
As the Campaign Communications Consultant, you will be a recognized expert in communications, marketing and branding and have demonstrated success in providing insight and assessment for university fundraising campaigns. Having wide-ranging experience, you will operate at the highest level to provide recommendations on the development, implementation and management of comprehensive and purposeful communications programs having organizational-wide impact. You will have in-depth knowledge of multiple communications media, including written, visual and electronic, and associated technical applications. You will be considered a subject matter expert and will serve as a highly knowledgeable and trusted resource in providing vital analysis, insight and guidance as part of their work in their capacity as a Campaign Communications Consultant. Qualifications
1. Seasoned tactical communications, marketing and branding professional with 15 plus years’ experience in various marketing arenas (agency, in-house for large organizations; higher education including development experience are a plus).

2. Experience and capability in making recommendations for the strategy and development of a comprehensive campaign communications program for UCLA.

3. Prior experience with universities in assessing, analyzing and providing recommendations for communications, marketing and branding in preparation for and during a fundraising campaign.

4. A high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, foresight, and integrity, as well as strong knowledge of marketing agencies, preferably with proven experience with higher education or non-profit clients and fundraising campaigns.

5. Expert knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications including strategic planning for various modes/channels of media.

6. Expert knowledge of and/or ability to quickly understand the mission, vision, goals, policies and infrastructure of UCLA; strong knowledge of issues impacting UCLA and higher education, specifically in relation to a fundraising campaign.

7. Highly developed skills to advise leadership on the creation, development and implementation of strategic communication plans.

8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

9. Extremely well developed interpersonal skills to work with all levels of leadership and constituents; strong active listening skills and a high level of political acumen.

10. Excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills.

11. Expert knowledge or ability to quickly gain knowledge of UCLA’s protocols and channels for communications internally and externally.

12. Recognized ability to recommend marketing and communication strategies and tools to move public opinion (as well as target audiences), encourage stakeholder involvement and support, recommend ways to increase donor support and establish UCLA as a brand of preference and choice.

13. Demonstrated ability to make recommendations of and/or successfully manage external marketing and creative resources, including advertising agencies, public relations firm and digital resources.

14. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.

15. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing or related field is preferred.
