Position Summary
As part of the External Affairs Advancement Services organization, UCLA's Foundation Financial Services team is an internal service group that coordinates and performs vital financial and accounting services for all campus departments as well as UCLA constituents. This team facilitates and supports a broad range of its customers' activities through a variety of value-added services, including financial reporting, accounting and managing external audits.

Primary Responsibilities
Under general supervision of the Executive Director, Foundation Financial Services, the Financial Reporting Accountant will be primarily responsible for financial reporting and analysis for the UCLA Foundation including monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports. This individual will prepare the annual audited financial statements, related footnote disclosures, audit supporting schedules, tax schedules, monthly and quarterly financial statements, management reports, and financial packages for various committee meetings. In addition, the Financial Reporting Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the general ledger system, performing GAAP and GASB research, reviewing and preparing journal entries, and preparing account reconciliations as required.

Qualifications
1. Advanced knowledge and understanding of GAAP and GASB and their practical applications.

2. Advanced knowledge of auditing standards and applications.

3. Ability to work independently to record detailed accounting transactions and reconciliations that require in-depth advanced knowledge of accounting concepts.

4. Demonstrated ability to independently analyze and reconcile large financial data reports with advanced analytical skills to evaluate information, identify and resolve problems.

5. Skilled in organizing and maintaining accurate, up-to-date accounting records for audit and follow-up action.

6. Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and a strong ability to organize, prioritize and manage workload to meet multiple deadlines working on several projects concurrently.

7. Ability to operate a personal computer with multiple applications, including proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint and various web applications. Need to be proficient in using Solomon accounting software. Ability to learn to do transaction research and pull reports from the UCLA gift system.

8. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of staff across External Affairs, faculty administrators, and volunteers as required.

9. Interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with senior management, campus administrators and volunteers. Ability to establish and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships with co-workers and other campus staff.

10. Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly both in person and on the telephone to answer accounting-related questions, explain procedures, and make effective oral presentations to groups.

11. Ability to work as part of team, direct staff, provide constructive feedback and training, and performance evaluations to accomplish the department's missions and goals.

12. Ability to occasionally work weekends and evenings to complete assignments and/or meet deadlines.

13. CPA is preferred as well as 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervision of staff.
