Position Summary
The Associate Director of Development, Planned Giving, reports to the Executive Director and will qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward planned giving donors ($100,000+) to increase individual gifts to programs campus-wide, as well as assist in growing the overall donor base.

Primary Responsibilities
Develop and execute long and short-term strategies to secure both planned and major gifts from individuals in support of the University's mission and strategic plan. Serve as a resource to unit-based Directors of Development and other External Affairs staff. Collaborate with Development colleagues across campus to enhance the pool of planned and major donor prospects. Assist development professionals across campus with regard to planned giving arrangements, technical information and gift planning strategies.

Qualifications


1. Demonstrated working knowledge of the principles and practices of fund-raising in a higher education and medical setting.

2. Progressive responsibility and experience as a gift planning professional, which includes outright gifts, deferred gift arrangements and experience with a wide variety of assets, i.e., real estate, securities, closely held stock, tangible personal property.

3. Broad and thorough knowledge of the principles of tax encouraged philanthropy.

4. Knowledge of current pertinent tax laws and other legislation affecting the charitable sector to determine its impact upon gifts from individuals.

5. Knowledge and experience in utilizing all mechanisms of outright and deferred gift plans offered at UCLA (preferred) and any combination thereof.

6. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement a variety of complex development programs and activities.

7. Skill in developing and implementing sophisticated strategies for successful cultivation and solicitation of major and principal gifts - outright and/or life income arrangements.

8. Demonstrated skill in writing fund raising correspondence, proposals for planned gifts and a variety of marketing materials as needed.

9. Strong communication skills to express both orally and in writing the mission of UCLA, the Medical Sciences and related fund-raising goals, as well as complex principles of tax-encouraged philanthropy.

10. Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with other development professionals, deans, senior faculty and administrators, professional advisors, donors and volunteers.

11. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to set priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.

12. Ability to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate the efforts of volunteers.

13. Ability to direct and motivate support staff to fulfill goals and objectives.
