Position Summary
Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Development, the Sr. Director, Major Gifts is responsible for developing and executing long- and short-term strategies to secure major gifts from individuals, alumni, foundations and other entities in support of the school's mission and strategic plan.

Primary Responsibilities
Manage the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects ($100,000 and up), with an emphasis on endowed chairs and other program endowments in the $500,000 to $3 million or higher range. Develop goals and objectives for the major gifts program, prepare annual operating plans of the unit and evaluate progress at appropriate intervals. Work closely with the school's Dean, Senior Associate Dean, Associate Dean, volunteers, faculty, students and development staff and other colleagues school-wide and campus-wide. Manages a portfolio of prospects as well as provide development support to several Research Centers.

Qualifications


1. Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of development within a complex research university setting.

2. Proven track record in fundraising, with a minimum of three to five years' professional experience.

3. Proven skills in developing sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering complex major-gift solicitations.

4. Proven strong team-building skills, creating liaisons with campus development colleagues, academic and administrative leadership, and faculty to develop effective cultivation and solicitation strategies.

5. Skill in developing and implementing successful strategies for identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individuals.

6. Experience cultivating and soliciting individuals particularly at the major and special gift levels.

7. Prior experience in capital campaign setting preferred.

8. Outstanding organizational skills and ability to exercise initiative, work proactively, and accept responsibility.

9. Demonstrated leadership skills to supervise major gifts officers and support staff.

10. Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and enhance relationships with alumni, students, volunteers, faculty, staff, university officials and the general public.

11. Working knowledge of complex databases, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Advance, PowerPoint. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

12. Experience in successful relationship-building with prospects, volunteers and board members.

13. Ability to travel when necessary.

14. Ability to work evenings and weekends upon request.
