The Medical Education and Scholarship Programs help UCLA to recruit some of the nation's best medical and graduate students, lifting the burden of debt and facilitating pursuit of career paths aligned with their passions, including dual-degree programs and scholarly research, and support associated initiatives identified as priorities by the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA's Vice Dean for Education.

Primary Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of Development for Medical Education and Scholarship Programs will work closely with the Director of Medical Education and Scholarship Programs to help implement a comprehensive development program that addresses specific needs and priorities for medical education and scholarship initiatives, particularly as they relate to donor cultivation and stewardship; data collection, culling, synthesis and forecasting; and annual and special giving. This individual will strategically analyze and interpret complex data and translate it as appropriate as a tool for stewardship and vehicle for donor communications. The Assistant Director will have a keen understanding of the impact of data and its intricate relationship with the fundraising efforts of the Medical Education and Scholarship Programs' work in order to develop targeted stewardship and cultivation projects and initiatives. This individual will work with the Director of the Medical Alumni Association and other key staff and faculty at the David Geffen School of Medicine to gain a deep understanding of the scope of medical education necessary to execute appropriate donor strategies for the aligned priorities and goals of Medical Education and Scholarship Programs.

Qualifications
1. Minimum of two years of experience working in a donor relations or fundraising environment, preferably in an academic medical setting with an emphasis on annual and special giving and/or prior experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development.

2. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of development at a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity including the principles of stewardship and annual/special giving techniques.

3. Ability to conceptualize and implement broad ranging and specific identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies for annual/special gifts.

4. Ability to strategically analyze and interpret complex data and translate it as appropriate as a tool for stewardship and vehicle for donor communications.

5. Good judgment with a demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations, donor files and other confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.

6. Ability to run, analyze and summarize computer-generated reports; analyze data effectively to isolate specific market segments; recognize areas of weakness and recommend strategies that achieve stated objectives.

7. Ability to take initiative, work independently and accept responsibility; adept at setting priorities and managing workflow to fulfill objectives and meet goals according to deadlines in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.

8. Exceptional interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a wide variety of internal and external constituents.

9. Excellent written communication skills necessary to write and edit letters, memos, reports, discussion documents, proposals and other cultivation and solicitation materials; ability to prepare clear and compelling materials for fundraising initiatives, programs and events.

10. Excellent oral communication skills to collect and convey information with accuracy, diplomacy and tact; ability to persuasively express the mission of the University and the fundraising goals of Health Sciences Development especially as they related to Medical Education and Scholarship Programs.

11. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite of applications as well as familiarity with other database, spreadsheet, scheduling and email applications, willingness to learn new programs and applications as needed.

12. Ability to travel and work evenings and/or weekends as needed.

13. Experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing special events is preferred.

14. Proficiency in Blackbaud CRM or equivalent development database and the use of databases to generate reports are preferred.
