Position Summary
FuturizeX, the home for all things tech at UCLA, is an unprecedented campus-wide initiative in UCLA External Affairs to engage Silicon Valley, foster student innovation, and expand awareness of the University's technological breakthroughs to the greater Los Angeles community. We are seeking an experienced and energetic communications professional with a passion for technology and science.

Primary Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director of FuturizeX, the Marketing and Communications Manager will develop world-class marketing materials and a compelling communications strategy for the efforts of FuturizeX. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, designing and developing copy for digital and print collateral materials, writing content for the FuturizeX website and social media platforms, managing the #BruinsInTech blog, and developing new outreach opportunities with communication and marketing partners on and off campus. Working closely with the Assistant Director of Outreach and Events, the Manager will also develop marketing materials to continue to elevate the reach of the Initiative's forum series and the FuturizeX Student Challenge.

To be successful in this role, the incumbent must be a self-motivated problem-solver who is capable of transforming complex breakthroughs in technology and science at UCLA into compelling narratives and messages for the general public, press, and partners. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is eager for new challenges and has a passion for innovation and technology.

Qualifications
1. Minimum of three years of post-college professional experience in marketing and/or advertising, extensive experience working with cross-functional teams and a proven ability to develop superior, on-strategy design across marketing and communication mediums.

2. Superior strategic thinking, planning and implementation skills with the ability to execute visual creative direction on projects in a manner that inspires and successfully pushes a brand forward.

3. Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

4. Excellent writing abilities; skilled word usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar with ability to edit documents and publications for style, accuracy, format and punctuation.

5. Experience conceiving and writing content for marketing materials, the web, and talking points.

6. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build cooperative, efficient relationships with volunteers, administrators and staff as well as the ability to work effectively with senior leadership.

7. Demonstrated strong understanding of and experience with social media tools and strategies that have delivered proven results.

8. Demonstrated strong project management skills, including ability to prioritize tasks and to establish and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, often unpredictable environment.

9. Ability to work as part of a team and motivate others toward a common goal.

10. Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of industry trends and technologies.

11. Knowledge and passion for science and technology is critical; experience in tech, entertainment, or UCLA is preferred.

12. Bachelor's degree in a technical or marketing or communications field is preferred.
