Position Summary
UCLA is proud of its comprehensive athletic program and heritage. The collective accomplishments of Bruin teams and athletes are testimony to the efforts of many dedicated and talented individuals: the student-athletes themselves, as well as coaches, administrators, and support staff. The athletic department also benefits from the strong support of faculty, students, alumni, and fans. Fundraising plays a significant role in the continuation of these collective accomplishments.

Primary Responsibilities
To assist in these efforts, UCLA Athletics seeks a Director of Development who will provide service to the entire development unit for Athletics including solicitations, prospect management, proposal tracking, endowments, planned giving, stewardship and communications. The Director will assess and articulate goals and priorities for increasing support for Athletics as well as determine and establish long-and short-term goal objectives for major gifts, planned gifts, endowments, special projects, capital projects, and high-level annual fund gifts in Los Angeles and the state of California. The Director will assist with identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift donors ($25,000+) to increase and maximize individual gifts to Intercollegiate Athletics. Under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director, the Director will develop and execute long- and short-term strategies to secure major gifts for the athletics department. The Director will work collaboratively with the Athletic Department staff, Athletic Fund staff, and University External Affairs staff to meet strategic goals.

Qualifications
1. Minimum three years of progressively responsible development experience, preferably in intercollegiate athletic fundraising, with a strong working knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fundraising, preferably in higher education, or equivalent experience in marketing, sales or related field.

2. Proven management skills and the ability to effectively evaluate, prioritize and develop individuals of all stages in a portfolio.

3. Proven skills in developing sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering complex major gift solicitations, including a strong documented record of gifts solicited in the special and major gift ranges.

4. Demonstrated ability to adhere to and comply with NCAA, PAC-12 and University rules and regulations.

5. Proven strong team-building skills and the ability to build relationships, create liaisons and work harmoniously with volunteers, athletic leaders, coaches and staff, and other internal and external constituents toward the accomplishment of fundraising goals.

6. Effective written communication skills to write and edit letters, memos, reports, discussion documents, proposals and other solicitation materials.

7. Strong verbal communication skills to articulate the mission of the University and the fundraising goals of the campus especially as they relate to the priorities of the UCLA Intercollegiate Athletic Department.

8. Strong ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate and evaluate staff and volunteers who support development goals and programs.

9. Ability to establish priorities, exercise initiative, work proactively, and accept responsibility in completing work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

10. Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of applications is preferred as is familiarity with other applications, programs and databases as needed with a willingness to learn new technologies.

11. Ability to travel, attend events as appropriate, and work some nights and weekends as needed.

12. Experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing special events.

13. Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred.
