UCLA is constantly on the move. As new priorities
emerge for the university, its Development team responds. Among our milestones
this year:
- $361 million in gifts and pledges was raised in fiscal year 2009,
the fourth consecutive year of $300-million-plus totals. The number of unrestricted gifts
was up 7 percent from the previous year.
- The number of alumni donors hit a record high in fiscal year 2009.
UCLA alumni remain engaged and committed to campus priorities despite economic constraints.
- In January 2009, Chancellor Gene Block launched the ambitious five-year Bruin Scholars
Initiative to raise $500 million for undergraduate and graduate student support. The initiative comes on the
heels of a four-year effort that raised $250 million to support scholarships, fellowships and faculty chairs,
including the creation of 101 new endowed professorships. The new initiative reflects the university's commitment to
maintaining access and affordability, and aims to safeguard UCLA’s legacies of academic excellence,
civic responsibility and global citizenship.
